These pickups are our take on what we consider to be the golden-era of strat pickups. These are the sound of the iconic strats of the early 60's, with some modern additions. Wonderful top end bite, clear and present low end, ever so slightly scooped mid-range, with tonnes of headroom. We've been very lucky over the years to get our hands on some great Strats from this era, and we've been even luckier to be able to open a couple up and get inside to see what made those things tick. 3 specifically made between 1961-63 became the inspiration for this set. We took a bunch of readings and sound examples, and then over many years have spent the time to recreate that great sound in the way we could.
But we found that modern recreations are often limited due to other manufacturers only wanting to produce nearly exact copies with no wiggle room for player customisation. As well as no RWRP middle position (due to the fact that 5 way selector switches weren't standard in Strats until 1977), limiting the overall scope and tonal variety of the pickups. We didn't like that, and as such the 63 Moderns were born.
We offer these sets in both the original vintage magnet stagger and a more modern flat stagger. Which works best? Well it depends on your guitar, and you! In our opinion a vintage stagger works best for guitars with a 7.25" - 10" fretboard radius, where as a modern stagger works best with anything from a 12" fretboard radius up. Including most compound radius boards.
We've also included a RWRP Middle position as standard, for hum cancelling in position 2 and 4 of a standard 5 position Strat. But if you want it more historically accurate, simply opt for the Non-RWRP middle position option.
